He told me that if he is invited he would like to take official visits to Notre Dame, USC, GA Tech and LSU. The sure-handed wide receiver had a great junior season at Crescent City earning All-District and All-State honors plus making the New Orleans All-Metro team and the All-East Jefferson team.
Brian Lewis
LB, 6'1", 230, 4.8, Terrebonne High
I also spoke to Terrebonne High head football coach Joe Clement about his two star players, Brian Lewis (LB, 6'1", 230, 4.8), No 46 on my top 100 and Josh Van Buren (SS, 6'2", 190, 4.5), No 26 on my top prospect list. The reason I called Coach Clement to ask about the two players is because a couple of high school coaches I have talked to in the last 10 days have told me about the two players. Coach Clement told me that the only negative thing about Brian Lewis is his foot speed. Lewis, who according to the coach hits like a tank and plays faster than 4.8, is receiving mail from LSU and other SEC schools. He has a 3.2 GPA and made an 18 on his ACT. I spoke to Lewis on the phone and he believes he can get his forty time down to 4.7 or below by the end of this school year.
Josh Van Buren
SS, 6'2", 190, 4.5, Terrebonne High
According to Coach Clement, Josh Van Buren (SS, 6'2", 190, 4.5) hits like a linebacker and does not welcome anyone in his territory in the middle of the playing field. Coach Clement said very few schools would throw over the middle against Terrebonne because of Van Buren and that East ST John quarterback Ryan Perrilloux only threw over the middle two times against them last season. Van Buren is receiving hand written letters from UCLA and is also hearing from LSU, Auburn, GA Tech, LA Tech, Tennessee and Ole Miss. Van Buren has a 2.60 GPA and has taken the ACT but has not yet received his results. Van Buren said he would like to take official visits to LSU, Tennessee, Auburn and UCLA. I believe he is a player that recruiting fans are going to hear of often in the next recruiting season.
Cameron Ceason
OL, 6'2-1/2", 300, Zachary High
Thursday I spoke to Bob Howell of Zachary High School concerning players on his team. I first asked Coach Howell about offensive lineman Cameron Ceason, No31 on my top 100 list. Coach Howell told me that Ceason is 6'2-1/2" and weighs 300 pounds. I asked what schools Ceason was hearing from the most and he said you name a school and he is hearing from it. Coach Howell went on to name LSU, Auburn, Alabama and Ole Miss. Ceason has not taken the ACT yet but Coach Howell believes his star offensive lineman will be eligible to play at a four-year school.
Tony McDowell
FB, 6'1", 210, Zachary High
I asked Coach Howell about fullback Tony McDowell (6'1", 210), No 99 on my top prospect list. Coach Howell said that McDowell would be very highly recruited, but will not be eligible to play his senior season at Zachary because of his age. McDowell will probably enroll at a junior college.
Justin Pomeroy
6'3", 285, Zachary High
Coach Howell also told me that Justin Pomeroy (6'3", 285) has transferred from Live Oak high school to Zachary. Pomeroy is a very hard worker in the weight room and is a player to keep an eye on.
Daverin Gerald
DL/OL, 6'3-1/2", 285, 5.2, Scotlandville High
Thursday, February 24, I talked to Scotlandville High School head football coach Terry Washington concerning his prize recruit Devarin Gerald who I have rated No 20. Coach Washington sent someone to get Gerald out of a class and we talked a few minutes. Gerald, who plays in the offensive and defensive line at Scotlandville, told me that he is 6'3-1/2", weighs 285 and runs a 5.2 forty. I asked what schools he was hearing from the most and his reply was LSU, Tennessee, Duke and Ole Miss. He would like to officially visit Tennessee, LSU and Stanford. Gerald told me that LSU is recruiting him to play offensive guard and some schools are recruiting him to play on the defensive side of the ball. He said he is not leaning to any certain school at this time. His favorite NFL player is Terrell Owens. Gerald is a very smart young man who takes all honor classes at Scotlandville and has a 4.62 GPA and made a 21 on his ACT. I asked Devarin his GPA average three times to be certain I heard 4.62. (They use a five-point scale.)
Zack Chauvin
QB, 6'0", 185, Thibodaux High School
I conducted an internet interview with Zack Chauvin (QB, 6'0", 185), No.40 on my top prospect list from Thibodaux high school. Chauvin is fiery competitor and his only draw back is that he is only six feet tall. What Chauvin is lacking in height he more than makes up for in heart and desire. Chauvin is hearing from LSU and attended the Ole Miss Junior Day event last weekend. He has a 3.5 GPA and made a 18 on the ACT the only time he has taken the test. Zack's plans are to keep retaking the test in hopes of qualifying for TOPS.
Larry Brewer
OL, 6'6", 320, 5.3, Slidell High
Sunday night I talked to Slidell offensive lineman Larry Brewer, number 29 on my top 100 list. Brewer told me that his true height and weight is 6'6", 320 and he runs a 5.3 forty. The giant offensive lineman told me that he is hearing mostly for Indiana, LSU and state schools and would like to take official visits to Alabama and LSU. I asked what he was looking for in a school and Brewer's answer was strong academics in Engineering. Brewer has a 2.3 GPA and will take the ACT in April.
Auther Green
LB, 6'1", 227, 4.7, Higgins High School
Monday night I talked to Arthur Green (LB, 6'1", 227, 4.7) from Higgins high school who is No.33 on my top 100. Arthur told me that he is receiving mail from Ole Miss, LSU, Indiana, Tulane and other in-state schools. Green told me that he would like to take an official visit to Miami and was not certain what other schools he would like to visit. He has a 2.8 GPA and will be taking the ACT later this month. I asked if he was a relative of Skyler Green who attended Higgins high school and his reply was that as far as he knows he is not.
Chris Mitchell
QB/WR, 6'2", 195, 4.4 John Ehret High
I caught up with Coach Billy North from John Ehret High School and I spoke to him about the three college prospects on his team that will be seniors in 2005. I first asked Coach Billy North about Chris Mitchell (6'2", 195, 4.4) who I have listed No.13 on my top 100 list. Coach North told me that he gave Mitchell about 30 letters from schools all across the nation just before I called. According to Coach North, Mitchell has already received scholarship offers from Miami, Texas A&M and Ole Miss and will receive many more before the end of this school year. Coach North said Mitchell is equally as good as all the super stars who have come out of the New Orleans area the last 20 years. He will play quarterback next season at John Ehret, but is projected to play wide receiver in college. Mitchell's brother signed with Ole Miss last season, but Coach North does not believe this will affect his decision concerning what school to attend. Mitchell has a 2.6 GPA and will take the ACT in April.
Kwame Jordan
DE, 6'4-1/2", 215, 4.67 John Ehret High
I also asked Coach North about Kwame Jordan (DE, 6'4-1/2", 215, 4.67) who I have ranked No.45 on my top 100 list. Coach North said Jordan only started two games as a junior because of the depth on the team, but that Jordan would turn some eyes next season and has a chance to be a very good college football player. I forgot to ask about Kwame's grades.
Jywin Ceasar
CB, 5'11", 180, 4.5 John Ehret High
Coach North is also very high on Jywin Ceasar (CB, 5'11", 180, 4.5). He expects Ceasar to be a mid-size major college prospects. Ceasar has a 3.0 GPA and will take the ACT in April.
David Franklin
LB, 6'2", 220, Haynesville
Tuesday morning, March 1, I spoke to coach David Franklin from Haynesville High School about his super star linebacker Stephen Jackson who I have ranked No. 94 on my top 100 prospect list.. Coach Franklin told me that Jackson is 6'2, 220 and is a big-time football prospect that will be able to attend just about any school he wants if he has the grades. Coach Franklin said that he was receiving phone calls from all over the South asking about his star linebacker and that Jackson is receiving mail from many major colleges.
Kenny Lewis
LB, 6'1", 185, 4.45, Dutchtown
I spoke, on the phone, with Kenny Lewis, LB, 6'1",185, 4.45, No.65 on my top prospect list. Lewis told me that he was hearing from all the Louisiana in state schools, but has not heard from any SEC schools yet. Coach Saia told me that Lewis is a player with a lots of potentials and is going to make some college football team a outstanding player. The only draw back against Lewis is that he is a little on the small, but has the body to add 15 - 20 pounds and still maintain his 4.45 time in the forty. Lewis will be attending one of the LSU Summer camps and will also attend a Nike camp at Florida State . Lewis told me that he would like to visit LSU, Georgia and Auburn. Kenny Lewis has a 3.0 GPA and will take the ACT in April.
Damon Aultman
DT, 6'3", 275, 5.2, Dutchtown

Damon told me that he would like to visit Kentucky and LSU. Damon will attend one of the LSU Summer camps and the Nike camp at FSU. Aultman has a 2.5 GPA and will take the ACT in April. Coach Saia believes that Aultman has a chance to be a outstanding college defensive tackle.
Zack Reddix
DE, 6'2", 230, 4.7, Dutchtown
I spoke to Zack Reddix, DE, 6'2",230, 4.7, who I have No. 44 on my top prospect list. Reddix is hearing from Oklahoma State, Southern Miss and all state schools. Coach Saia told me that Reddix would probably play linebacker in college because he will probably be a little small to play defensive end. Zack plans are to attend one of the LSU Summer camp and the Nike camp at FSU. Zack has a 2.7 GPA and will take the ACT in April.
Cameron Zipp
DT, 6'2"-1/2", 285 Fontainbleau High
Last night, March 08, 2005, I spoke to Cameron Zipp (6'2-1/2", 285, DT) from Fontainbleau high school. I have Zipp ranked 47th on my top 100 which is probably a little low. Zipp is a very polite, soft spoken young man. He told me that he is receiving mail from Auburn, W. Virginia, Mississippi State, Tulane, Tennessee and all the state schools, and said that he would like to take official visits to Auburn, Georgia, West Virginia and LSU. Zipp has 3.80 GPA and is hoping to have a 4.0 this semester. His favorite NFL player is Kevin Mawae. Zipp attended Spring day at LSU with his dad and enjoyed meeting Coach Dunbar and Coach Miles. He plans to attend junior day at Auburn and a couple of Summer camps. Zipp's father played college football at Auburn.
Scott Ward
DT, 6'3", 285, 5.0, St. Paul of Covington
Last night I caught up with Scott Ward (DT, 6'3", 285, 5.0) from St. Paul of Covington. I have Scott Ward rated No. 57 on my state top prospect list, but after talking to him last night I know that I have him rated much too low and I will be moving his name up later in the Spring. Ward told me that he is receiving mail from Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Illinois and state schools. He said he has not thought very much about what schools he wants to officially visit but that LSU and Tennessee are definitely on the list. Ward has a 2.8 GPA and has not taken the ACT. His favorite NFL players are Warren Sapp and Kyle Turley.
Bernardo (Pooh Bear) Henry
WR/DB, 6'1", 176, 4.26, Leesville High
I tracked down Bernardo (Pooh Bear) Henry (6'1", 176, 4.26, WR/DB) who is a multi-sports star at Leesville. Henry is best known for his results in track but is receiving a lot of interest from some of the major colleges' football programs because of his speed and ability to catch the football. My guess is that his 4.26 time in the forty yard dash is the best in the state of Louisiana. Leesville high school took first place last weekend at a huge track meet at Bolton of Alexandria and Henry was named MVP . He came in first in the 4x1, 4x2, the 4x4 and ran a 21.94 in the 200 meters after running three events back to back. Henry told me that he is receiving mail from Arkansas, LSU, Oklahoma State, Auburn, Tennessee, Marshall, Nebraska, Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State. Henry said he wants to play college football but would also like to run track and field. His favorite school is Texas A&M but he has only received one letter from the Aggies so far. Henry has a 3.0 GPA and made a 19 on his ACT the first time he took the test. Henry was chosen as the district 3-4A Co-MVP along with Chris Brown from ASH Henry was a first team district selection as a Athlete and second team district selection as a WR. He was also All Parish and All West Central Louisiana MVP. Second Team All Central Louisiana as a Athlete and Honorable Mention 4A All State Selection. Henry had many big games the last football season. In the 1st half show against Natchitoches-Central the speedster had three Receptions for 172 yards and two Touchdowns, also had a 97 yard touchdown reception in that game. In the 1st half against Pineville Henry had four rushes for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Henry also had big games against Tioga, DeRidder, and in our over 250 yards against Opelousas in a state play off game, 175 on the ground and 77 yards receiving.
Wes Tunnufai-Savuno
DL, 6'4", 310, 4.9, Leesville High
Last night I caught up Wes Tunnufai-Savuno (DL, 6'4", 310, 4.9) from Leesville high school. Wes is a very smart young man who has a 3.2 GPA and made a 25 on his ACT. I asked him what schools he is hearing from and his reply was all the Ivy League schools plus LSU, Texas, OU, Auburn, FSU, Marshall, Penn State and Duke. Wes told me that he is planning on attending Summer camps at UT, Texas, LSU, OU and the down under in Australia. He would like to take official visits to Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, the University of Georgia, and UCLA. Wes also plays soccer, is a member of the power lifting team, and participates in the field events in track and field. At this time he is leaning toward the University of Texas. I expect Wes Tunnufai-Savuno to be a national recruit next season.
Richard Dickson
TE, 6’3”1/2, 240, 4.75, Ocean Springs, MS
Sunday night I talked to Richard Dickson (TE, 6’3”1/2, 240, 4.75) from Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Dickson told me that he is hearing from most of the football power houses in the South and that he has received scholarship offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama and Auburn. I asked the class 5A All-State tight end what schools he would like to visit next season and he said he would like to visit all the schools who offer him scholarships and is hoping that Tennessee and LSU will be among them. Dickson has already made visits to the two Alabama schools this Spring and will be visiting LSU soon. Dickson said that LSU is less than a two-hour drive from Ocean Springs and that distance would not hurt LSU's chances. |
