DandyDon is proud to recognize David Toms as a great ambassador of the Tiger Nation.

Meet Dandy Don

“Dandy” Don Long was born in the small rural village of Tannehill, Louisiana in 1935. He has been happily married to Joy, the love of his life, for the last 53 years, and is the proud father of five kids, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Don has been an LSU fan for as long as he can remember. Up until a few years ago when Joy became ill with Parkinson’s Disease, Don had not missed attending an LSU home game in roughly 30 years. In 1996, Don’s son Scott, owner of the website development company LONGevity Design, designed and developed DandyDon.com as a gift for Don’s 61st birthday. Don was both surprised and intimidated by the prospect of publishing a website, but quickly recognized it as a great way to share his passion for LSU sports and Louisiana High School recruiting with Tiger fans throughout the world. Since that time, Don and Scott have faithfully published a report every single day.

What makes Don uniquely qualified to produce a site like DandyDon.com is not only his love and knowledge of LSU sports, but also his past experience as a football official for the LA High School Football Association. Don served as a football official for 18 years and during that time he got to know most of the state's high school football coaches and was able to watch the state’s top prospects perform on the field. After retiring from officiating, he continued his relationship with high school coaches and continued to keep tabs on the state's top prospects. Over the years he has also developed relationships with several key members of LSU’s Athletic Department.

Each Friday morning, Don meets with a group of Tiger Fans at CC’s Coffee House in Lafayette (Johnson Street location) to discuss all things LSU and to just shoot the breeze. For more information on Don and his weekly gatherings, we suggest reading a wonderful article written by Nathan Stubbs of The Independent entitled “Fever Pitch”.

We at DandyDon.com thank you for your readership and your support. If there’s ever anything we can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact us.
